It’s great to be back, everyone, and I’m looking forward to this term.
It shows what a great team we have when I was off, and everything continued to run like a well-oiled machine. Well done, everyone!!

This half term, we are looking at the topics:
Easter, Mother’s Day, St Patricks Day, St Davids Day.
We will examine the sustainability goal "Good Health." We will also be looking at the season Spring and Growth, and life cycles.

On Thursday, the 5th of March, we will all be celebrating World Book Day. We are asking that the children dress as their favorite story character and bring in the story book so that we can all share our favourite story.

Monitoring Children’s Development
Next week, staff will be tracking the children’s development for the early years’ goals, which will then be shared with you at parents' evening.
Parents Evening
This will take place on Monday the 23rd of March 3.10pm till 4.00pm. Please speak to your child’s keyperson to book an appointment.
Sponsored Easter Bunny Hop
This will take place on Wednesday, the 25th of March at 10.30 am outside the pre-school in the park. We hope that you will come along to cheer the children on. More information to follow and the sponsor form. All children are welcome even if your child does not attend pre-school on a Wednesday. Please let Dawn know if you would like to attend the session, as I will need to make sure we have enough eggs, baskets and a printed certificate.
Easter Bonnet Parade and Easter Party
This will take place on Wednesday the 1st and Thursday the 2nd of April. We ask that all children bring in an Easter bonnet that day for the parade before lunch. The children will also have party food that day. If you require any more information on any item on this newsletter, then please do not hesitate to contact me.Dawn Pre-school Manager
Newsletter 7th January 2026
Happy New Year to you all we hope that you had a lovely time over the holiday.
Arrivals
Pre-schools doors open at 8.15am for you to use the entrance hall and share a book with your child or just spend some precious minutes together before pre-school opens its doors at 8.30am. Could I ask that you all try to arrive for 8.30am (unless you are using your funding arriving at a different time). Staff are spending up to 15 minutes per day sometimes more answering the door for late arrivals. We appreciate that during this bad weather, conditions are awful and we expect late arrivals due to the conditions but in normal conditions we need children to arrive promptly for our school day to begin. Pre-school has a timed routine and 2 staff being on the door is causing disruption to our day.
Lunch Boxes
Just a reminder that grapes, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries need to be cut length ways into 4 (half then quarters). Also crisp and raisins are not allowed due to healthy options.
Sustainability Goals
As part of our sustainability goals the children will be working with the Great Sankey Parish Council Park Keeper over the coming weeks going out into our park learning about looking after our park and our community and world. We have litter pickers and we will look at the rubbish and what we can recycle to help our planet. We will also be looking at saving energy in pre-school as part of Energy Saving week 17th to 23rd of January. We are making thoughtful changes that will support the children to develop care, respect and responsibility for their environment. From next week we shall be using reusable cloth wipes for hands and faces replacing single use wipes. The cloths are dampened with water, used once and then laundered to make them ready to reuse. As always hygiene and well being remain a priority and we will continue to reflect and adapt our practice to ensure that they work well for everyone.
Valentine’s Party
We will be holding Valentine’s event days on Wednesday the 11th and Thursday the 12th of February. The children will be exploring Love and kindness and the colour red and having some party food.
Attendance
Parets can I please remind you that when your child will not be attending pre-school, you must inform pre-school of your child’s absence. If we have not been informed as our safeguarding policy states by one hour after the child was due, then we must contact you to see where your child is. All absences are logged and monitored as required by the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory guidance.
Surgery staff Absence
Dawn will be having surgery on the 28th of January so she will be absent for a few weeks. Rachel our Deputy Manager will be managing the setting during Dawn’s absence. You can still email any issues or concerns, as emails will be accessed during the week but for urgent concerns, wanting a speedy reply then please contact pre-school via telephone or text.
We close for the half term on Friday the 13th of February and reopen on Monday the 23rd of February 2026.

Happy New Year to you all and welcome back after the Christmas break. This terms dates: Monday the 6th of January to Friday the 14th of February, we will then be closed for the weeks half term break reopening on Monday the 24th of February.
Terms Topics
This half term we are looking at the topics: Winter and the weather, Ice, Artic lands and animals. Our current weather is really helping us with the ice topic. Chinese New Year and its celebration.
Chinese New Year
We are looking at the Festival Chinese New Year on the 27th, 28th and 29th of January. We will be tasting Chinese food, noodles, rice with sweet and sour sauce, spring rolls and prawn crackers. We will explore the faith and customs and try to eat with chopsticks. Please inform Dawn or your child’s keyperson if your child has any allergies to the Chinese foods mentioned above so that we can plan an alternative snack.
Healthy Eating
We will be introducing packed lunch advice sheets to support parents to make better choices regarding healthy eating and the foods in lunch boxes. This is a role that we must carry out as part of the Early Years Foundation stage protecting children’s health, wellbeing and dental health. We explored lots of different fruit and vegetables last term in preschool trying to make them look inviting to eat, to encourage the children to try new things or things that they do not really like at the moment. Our Santa faces and the Christmas trees were just a few. These will be sent out in the next few weeks.
Birthday Bear
To celebrate the children’s birthdays, we will be sending home our new birthday bear with a diary for parents to write a little about what their child did on their birthday so that we can then share this together in pre-school. Pictures can be emailed to pre-school to that we can print them out and add to the diary.
Steph’s 40th Birthday
Steph will be celebrating her 40th Birthday on the 11th of February so we will be having a little party with Steph and the children with a birthday cake and lots of candles ha ha.
Valentines Day
We will be having a valentine’s party on Thursday the 13th of February to celebrate the word LOVE. We ask that the children wear red for this event.
Garden Area
This was progressing along nicely, but the present weather conditions have halted work this week. With the money raised at Christmas I have instructed Great Sankey Parish council to remove our old garden planters (which have rotted and are too fragile to move) to build us some new sleeper planters. So, watch this space more to follow and we will invite parents in to see the new garden as soon as we can. We will continue to explore the outdoors but in the local park and environment as we wait for the works to finish.
We are also looking at going to Park Road school for sessions with the forest schoolteacher more information to follow.
